The poses in this practice all have to do with opening the area of the heart by stretching into the chest, upper back and shoulders. The heart chakra is associated with the color green and for this yin yoga class you’ll need 2 blocks and possibly a blanket. Welcome to yin yoga 30 minute heart opening sequence (yin yoga anahata chakra) - Upper body yin yoga for self compassion & love class. The front of the heart is where we give love, and the back of the heart is where we receive it. If it doesn’t feel appropriate to drop the head back, place a blanket or pillow under the head. In a heart opening practice, the traditional emphasis is on opening the chest or physical area around the heart, but in this flow I am encouraging you to explore both the front and back of the heart through movement and holding. It is about compassion, forgiveness and caring. Begin lying on your back with a block, bolster or rolled-up blanket lengthways between the shoulder blades (that is, the long edges of the object will be parallel to the long edges of your yoga mat). ![]() The heart chakra relates to our ability to love ourselves as well as others.
